Meet the Team: Sarah Woods

Our meet the team blog series has allowed you to get to know some of the Procure Plus team. In recent months, we’ve introduced you to Sarah Casey, senior business analyst; Michelle Davis, performance analyst; and Stephen Blears, senior systems analyst. This month we caught up with Sarah Woods, systems support officer to find out why she chose a career at Procure Plus.

Why did you choose a career in this sector?
I have always had a strong interest in IT. Throughout my education I was always taken by the technical side of technology, which led to me studying media technology: mobile and internet television at university. My degree featured a wide variety of technical modules from how to configure systems, to programming. The pathway I chose meant I focused heavily on the use of IT within media.

After graduating, I became a broadcast engineer. I maintained systems over three sites with two server rooms – meaning I could apply the skills I had gathered from my degree. The technical aspects are what interested me about the role – I enjoyed being able to rebuild, maintain and upgrade suites with new equipment. When the company went into liquidation, it led me to the system support officer role with Procure Plus.

What does your role at Procure Plus look like?
I’m a member of the systems team, where we all have a wide range of technical skills and abilities. There are many aspects to my role, but my main responsibility is the maintenance of the company’s technical equipment. One part of this is the hardware, such as company mobiles, telephone systems, PCs and printers. I also deploy and maintain any new or existing software. I am also an administrator of Office 365, deploying and maintaining the software within our office – and work with my team on our bespoke Procure Plus ‘Schemes Plus’ system.

Why did you choose to work at Procure Plus?
The role at Procure Plus offered everything I wanted from a job. It was a position that offered an opportunity to progress and develop my skills – exactly what I was looking for. Before applying for the full time position, I worked within the company on a temporary basis. In this short amount of time I knew this was the place I wanted to work for my future. Everyone at Procure Plus is approachable and helpful, which, combined with the ethos of the company, means it is a wonderful place to work.

What is your favourite thing about living in the North West?
Greater Manchester has always been my home. It is where the majority of my friends and family live and I see most days. The area has a great selection of colleges and universities, it is well connected by public transport, and there are always plenty of events across the region – which is of course a great appeal.

If you were taking friends out for dinner in Manchester, where would you go?
It would be a hard decision because there is so much choice! However, if I had to pick one it would be Red’s True BBQ. The food tastes like being back in America, which is one of my favourite countries to visit. The atmosphere is great for catching up with friends and the staff are very welcoming. For value for money it is fantastic and there is a wide selection on the menu to please everyone.
