
Victoria Close estate, located to the west of Stockport town centre, was built in the 1970s as a mix of family accommodation and flats, the majority of which are managed by Stockport Homes on behalf of Stockport MBC.
The estate has a number of communal parking areas for residents rather than space within curtilages, and there are many narrow passageways crossing the estate. The estate is adjacent to three main roads and a railway line. It is also close to Stockport Football Club, which on match days creates resident concerns about car parking, littering and safety.
Detailed consultation about the landscaping project took place with residents involving estate walkabouts, one-to-one interviews, organised drop-in sessions and questionnaires. Further consultation involved other services working in the area and partners including Groundwork Trust and the community police.
A detailed environmental plan was drawn up to address concerns about the physical environment but also to support wider ambitions to create and maintain neighbourhoods that are cleaner, greener and safer.
