Manifestive CIC delivers expert training, coaching, and facilitation to help young people across the North West overcome challenges and realise their potential. Jacob’s Story

Jacob is a 16-year-old neurodiverse young man, diagnosed as autistic and of mixed-race heritage. He faces significant challenges with verbal communication in group settings and unfamiliar environments. To help ease these barriers, he attended Manifestive’s five-week song writing programme accompanied by his mother, who offered reassurance and communicated on his behalf.

Despite initial anxieties, Jacob quickly immersed himself in the programme. He listened intently, took detailed notes, and engaged fully with the sessions. The tuition, delivered by acclaimed songwriter Nick Ellis, ignited a deep creative spark, and Jacob formed genuine connections with other young people from underserved communities.

As the weeks progressed, his mother noticed a visible shift in him – a renewed expression of confidence and joy. By the end of the programme, Jacob had written three full songs, sung and recorded them, and found the courage to upload his performances to YouTube.

Outcome

Jacob’s journey demonstrates the power of safe, supportive, and creative environments where young people can thrive. His mother expressed her pride and surprise at his transformation, sharing:

“I’m so proud to share these songs with you, I can’t believe it – I had no idea he had created them and even more so shared them on YouTube! It is unbelievable to hear him sing, I couldn’t believe it was him. Your programme has had an immeasurable impact, you are so worthwhile and the project was amazing!”
