The Trafford-based regeneration consortium joins just 26 other businesses across the region who have committed to the minimum rate of pay. The Living Wage is an hourly rate set independently and updated annually, based on the cost of living in the UK. Since its formation ten years ago, the Living Wage campaign has helped lift over 45,000 people out of poverty.
The adoption of a Living Wage policy has been found to have significant benefits both commercially and within wider society. An independent study of the business benefits of implementing a Living Wage policy in London found that more than 80 per cent of employers believe that it had enhanced the quality of the work of their staff, while absenteeism had fallen by approximately 25 per cent. Approximately 66 per cent of employers reported a significant impact on recruitment and retention within their organisation, while 70 per cent of employers felt that the Living Wage had increased awareness of their organisation’s commitment to be an ethical employer.
